Do you ever watch racing of any kind? I can do an occasional NASCAR event but Olympic track events get me excited. To me it’s just the purest type of race. You’ve spent years conditioning with purpose. So much of the pre-work you did was not glamorous but necessary. Preparing the mind is just as hard as the body. You can see your goal right in front of you. Coiled up in the starting blocks you’re ready to go and then….AND THEN…..false start.

So many things happen at that moment (especially if you are the one who caused it). Immediately, you need to regain composure. Check your legs so you don’t tighten up. Refocus on your goal.

Gotta do your pre-work

By this you may think I mean picking your market or “Niche” (I’ll get to that stuff later). While that’s important, there are a few things you need to have in check even before you go down that road. First and foremost, you have to make the most of your health. Your mind is ready to explore this vast new world of on-line marketing but your body can barely get you out of bed in the morning.

You know my Mom would always say, “So long as you have your health” when anything bad would happen. Never really got that until I tried multi-tasking this blog into my life (along with my job, being a husband, and a Dad to four kids). You get the picture.

Now, if my body doesn’t give me what I need I say to my body “I will throw you on the floor and do push-ups and sit-ups until you give me the energy I need to be amazing today.” “I will feed you fruits and veggies until you’re green so that you nourish me to make my mind think great thoughts.” Again…you get the picture.

Your body has got to fuel you, support you and serve you. Having the energy at the end of the day or during the weekend to work on your on-line business for an hour is critical. Being able to think clearly and stay focused so that when you sit down the ideas flow, that’s the key to on-line work.

So take some time and ask yourself, am I physically ready to take this on? Is my mind ready to learn and absorb and work? If not I would say wait a second. Commit to doing the things you need to do to get your ultimate machine ready for a wonderful, big race.

Love it or leave it

The next little bit of housekeeping is the mental. And I do mean mental. There is the part of your mind that needs to think great thoughts. It can be a challenge to come up with content when your head just isn’t into it. After you think it you need to write it in such a way that you educate and inspire. Not an easy task. Throw in the fact that you then shift your mind into a whole other mode to then deal with the technical stuff and now you know why I call it mental.

So as you begin your search for what kind of on-line success you want to be you’ll need to make one thing crystal clear: Love what you do. Pretty plain and simple. Don’t chase a trend or be influenced by friends or co-workers. Really commit some time to saying to yourself “How can I help someone?” or, “what am I passionate about?”

Because you may be able to sell a product on how to grow the greenest lawn in the hopes of big affiliate commissions but, if you truly love playing guitar, you’ll be much happier talking guitars. If you love it and enjoy talking about it (whatever “it” is) then you can write or speak to it. Create a following of like-minded people or ones with questions you can answer and PRESTO, you’re in the starting blocks.

Bring your “A” game

So much of anything worth chasing in life is all about mindset. Making a commitment to start and having the body and heart to see it through sure do help set you up for success. In some ways, this work you do now may be the most important of all. No false starts for you. “POP”, let the race begin. Let me know your thoughts. If you have any questions, let me know.
